We have had quite a lot of rain, and decided to write some poetry about it. We closed our eyes, and thought about how it felt on us, how it sounded, what we could see, and what our feelings were about rain. Mrs Burgess played some rain sounds on a rainmaker instrument, and then she played real rain sounds from her computer and through onto our TV screen. We brainstormed words and then we wrote our draft copy. We learnt about how writing poetry is different from writing a story. We learnt we don't have to write in sentences, but can write descriptive parts of a sentence. We proof read it, had it checked, and then published it on rain drops that Mrs Burgess had for us. We painted a huge umbrella, and mixed our primary colours to make new secondary colours. It was fun. Mrs Burgess put our finished poems on and around the umbrella. It was funny, because the day we were publishing our poems, it was pouring with rain. Rain outside, and rain poems inside! Here are some photos of some of our poems.
